ECMWF AIFS model
ECMWF's machine-learning model, operational since 2025. Trained on decades of reanalysis, it runs in minutes instead of hours. Also known as ECMWF AI model, Artificial Intelligence Forecasting System.

Where AIFS is strong
Very competitive large-scale skill, notably tropical cyclone tracks; fast and consistent run-to-run.
Where to be careful
Tends to smooth extremes; rain intensity and local detail are less reliable than its pattern. Output is 6-hourly, without gusts.
How to read the AIFS forecast on MeteoStack
On every city page, AIFS is one row of the stack: each cell is one hour, coloured by rain, temperature, wind or cloud. Compare its row against the consensus line at the top. If AIFS is far from the others, treat its outlier signal with caution, or as an early warning if it is a model that is strong in that situation (see above).
