ECMWF IFS model
The "European model". For two decades the reference global model in independent verification scores, especially beyond day 3. Also known as European model, Euro, IFS, ECMWF HRES.

Where ECMWF is strong
Large-scale pattern and storm track 3–10 days out, pressure systems, medium-range temperature.
Where to be careful
A 9 km grid still smooths narrow valleys and coastlines; convective showers are parameterised, not resolved.
How to read the ECMWF forecast on MeteoStack
On every city page, ECMWF is one row of the stack: each cell is one hour, coloured by rain, temperature, wind or cloud. Compare its row against the consensus line at the top. If ECMWF is far from the others, treat its outlier signal with caution, or as an early warning if it is a model that is strong in that situation (see above).
